The Antelope Valley, California

Surrounded by the western Mojave Desert hills, the Antelope Valley is a community in northern Los Angeles County and home to over 500,000 residents across Lancaster, Palmdale, Rosamond, and Mojave. While housing is more affordable than LA City, this area faces an above average cost of living with a median household income of $52,000. 23% of families live below the poverty line. The Antelope Valley community as a whole is facing a sadly well-known and heartbreaking pet overpopulation challenge with some of the most overcrowded animal shelters in the nation. Compared to other areas of Los Angeles (which are also facing a pet overpopulation crisis), Palmdale and Lancaster have the highest euthanasia rates (Palmdale: 40.78%, Lancaster: 31.73%) compounded by low adoption rates. The region's shelter intake per capita is nearly twice the national average, indicating the challenge in managing the animal shelter population relative to the community’s size. Bottom line: the Antelope Valley community is desperately seeking access to low-cost spay and neuter services to transform the Lancaster and Palmdale animal shelters. This community will remain a top priority for our organization, and our goal is to make the Antelope Valley a case study for spay and neuter for the nation’s hardest hit communities to follow.

We are partnering with Community Effort Spay and Neuter to offer low-cost sterilization services to every pet in the Antelope Valley. Join us in transforming Palmdale and Lancaster animal shelters into shelters that lead the nation in lives saved.

Our Antelope Valley Spay and Neuter Program:

  • In 2025, the City of Palmdale is also reinstituting a city-specific spay and neuter program to fund sterilization services for families living within three Palmdale zip codes (93350, 93551, and 93552), so our efforts will be compounded!

  • The Angels for Angels Foundation will cover any family pet residing outside of these 3 zip codes, making the program truly available to every dog and cat in the Antelope Valley. We are prioritize pets at higher risk for pregnancy and families with greater financial need.

  • Our goal is to sterilize 1,200+ dogs and cats in the Antelope Valley in 2025!

  • Donate to the Angels for Angels Foundation (please send us a note to direct your donation to “Antelope Valley”)

  • Our Antelope Valley GoFundMe is currently on hold to ensure families impacted by the LA fires are fully supported. We will need to begin raising funds for 2026 in April 2025.
